Worcester County to Host Citizens Scrap Tire Drop Off Day October 5th

 The Worcester County Commissioners and the Public Works Recycling Division will host Citizens Scrap Tire Drop-Off Day on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. This event will take place at the Central Landfill in Newark.

“We’re very thankful that area residents partner with the county to help assure that these old tires are recycled,” Recycling Manager Bob Keenan said. “This helps to divert waste from the landfill and achieve greater rates of recycling throughout the county.”

Wed., Oct. 2, a portion of Timmonstown Road, from mailbox #9711 to Libertytown Road, will be closed while crews replace a failed crossroad pipe. Repairs should take one day to complete.

DETOUR: motorists can take Libertytown Road to Main Street to U.S. Rt. 50. For further assistance, please contact the Roads Division at 410-632-2244.

Waterline flushing schedule for Mystic Harbour and other area water systems

The Water and Wastewater Division of Public Works will begin its semi-annual program for flushing waterlines in Assateague Pointe, Edgewater Acres, Nantucket Pointe, Deer Point, Landings, Mystic Harbour, Newark, Ocean Reef, Riddle Farm, and West Ocean City Service Areas between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The following proposed Fall 2024 dates for the flushing of the waterlines are subject to change.

Sewer System Smoke Testing Takes Place October 1 – 31 in the Mystic Harbor service area

 

Worcester County Public Works Water and Wastewater (WWW) Division will conduct smoke testing of the sanitary sewer system from, October 1-31 in Mystic Harbor and the surrounding areas, including Costal Drive, Mystic Harbour Boulevard, Ocean Reef Drive, Deer Point Circle, Anchor Way Drive, and Blue Heron Circle.

This study will involve opening and entering manholes in the streets and public utility easements to locate breaks and defects in the sewer system. The smoke will also reveal where storm and other surface water enters the sewer system.

Alan Myers, the county’s paving contractor, will be paving Colona Road on or about Sept. 25-26. The project should take two days to complete. The road will remain open; however, motorists can expect traffic delays while work is being performed. Flaggers will be in place to guide people through the work zone safely. Mon., Sept. 23 – Tues., Sept. 24, Silva Road will be closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days, from Sheephouse Road – Maryland/Virgina Line, while Alan Myers, the county’s paving contractor, pave the road. Commissioners appoint Cathy Zirkle as new DRP customer service manager

Snow Hill, Maryland (September 18, 2024) – The Worcester County Commissioners appointed Cathy Zirkle to serve as the customer service manager within Development Review and Permitting (DRP). Zirkle, who stepped into her new role September 3, will replace longtime Customer Service Manager Janet Davis who will be retiring later this year.
