Commissioners Appoint Seth Place as Deputy Finance Officer

Worcester County, MD — The Worcester County Commissioners named Seth Place as the new deputy finance officer. Place, a certified public accountant (CPA), brings over 9 years of progressive experience in public accounting, specializing in tax, client accounting and advisory services (CAAS), and financial reporting and analysis. His experience spans over a variety of sectors, including private, nonprofit, and government.

Worcester County Offices Closed for Juneteenth on Friday, June 19

Worcester County Government (WCG) offices, including all five Branch Libraries and Recreation and Parks, will be closed Friday, June 19, 2026, for Juneteenth, National Freedom Day. 

The Central Landfill and Homeowner Convenience Centers will also be closed. 

Saturday, June 20, standard operating hours will resume for all five Branch Libraries, Recreation and Parks, Landfill, and HOCCs.

Monday, June 22, standard operating hours will resume for all other WCG offices. 

WORCESTER COUNTY BURN BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT

Snow Hill, Maryland (June 11, 2026) – Worcester County officials are reminding residents and visitors that the countywide burn ban issued on May 4, 2026, remains in effect until further notice. The ban was implemented due to continued dry conditions, below-normal rainfall, and declining groundwater levels that significantly increase the risk of rapidly spreading outdoor fires.

FY27 Worcester budget maintains 81.5 cent property tax rate, increases education funding by 8 percent

On June 2, 2026, the Worcester County Commissioners approved the Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) Operating Budget of $300,172,146.

“This budget provides meaningful salary increases for our valued employees and makes substantial investments across all departments, while still maintaining a fiscally conservative approach,” Worcester County Commissioner President Ted Elder said. “It includes a historic funding increase for the Board of Education and ensures that law enforcement has the resources to address public safety needs.”

Wawa Sign Unveiling Ceremony June 4th in Pocomoke City

Worcester County, MD — Residents, business leaders, and community stakeholders are invited to attend a sign unveiling ceremony for the future home of Wawa in Pocomoke City on Thursday, June 4, at 12:30 p.m.

The event will take place at the corner of U.S. Route 13 and Stockton Road and will celebrate a significant private-sector investment that reflects continued confidence in Pocomoke City's growth and economic potential.

The ceremony is being hosted by Maryland’s Coast–Worcester County Tourism and Economic Development (WCTED), Pocomoke City, and Paramount Realty.
