Snow Hill, Maryland (June 11, 2026) – Worcester County officials are reminding residents and visitors that the countywide burn ban issued on May 4, 2026, remains in effect until further notice. The ban was implemented due to continued dry conditions, below-normal rainfall, and declining groundwater levels that significantly increase the risk of rapidly spreading outdoor fires.
Worcester County, MD — The Worcester County Commissioners and Worcester County Recreation & Parks invite residents to join them for the official dedication of the new walking trail at John Walter Smith Park, located at 6040 Public Landing Road in Snow Hill, on Tuesday, June 16, at 1 p.m.
Marshall Creek Road in Newark will be closed Wednesday, June 10, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., while County Roads Division crews replace a failed crossroad pipe. Residents are urged to plan accordingly for this closure. Provisions will be in place to reopen the road in the event that fire or EMS personnel must access the area.
The Atlantic hurricane season began on June 1, and Worcester County Emergency Services encourages residents and visitors to take steps now to prepare for severe weather and other potential emergencies. Experience has shown that the best time to prepare is before a storm is approaching.
On June 2, 2026, the Worcester County Commissioners approved the Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) Operating Budget of $300,172,146.
“This budget provides meaningful salary increases for our valued employees and makes substantial investments across all departments, while still maintaining a fiscally conservative approach,” Worcester County Commissioner President Ted Elder said. “It includes a historic funding increase for the Board of Education and ensures that law enforcement has the resources to address public safety needs.”

Worcester County Government (WCG) offices, including all five Branch Libraries and the Worcester County Recreation Center (WCRC), will be closed Monday, May 25, 2026, for the Memorial Day holiday.
The WCRC will be open Saturday and Sunday, May 23-24; however, the gym arena and walking track will be closed for cleaning and maintenance.
The Central Landfill and Homeowner Convenience Centers will also be closed May 25.
WCG offices will resume standard operating hours on Tuesday, May 26. WCG staff wish one and all a happy and safe holiday weekend.
Snow Hill, MD — Worcester County Government has secured a $613,380 grant from the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) to fund a lead service line replacement and cross-connection control project in the Newark Service Area.
“This project will modernize aging water infrastructure by replacing outdated and potentially lead-containing service lines along Newark Road and Langmaid Road and installing new meter pit setters equipped with dual check valves to prevent backflow,” Public Works Director Dallas Baker said.
