Applications Available Online for Non-Profit Grants from Worcester County Government

Snow Hill, Maryland (December 23, 2025) – Worcester County Government (WCG) is accepting grant applications from area non-profit agencies now through Friday, January 23, 2026.

Applications are available to download as a PDF at www.co.worcester.md.us. Once there, the link to the Non-Profit Grant Application can be found under “Important Links” on the right-hand side of the web page.

Worcester County offers Christmas tree recycling to residents

The Solid Waste Division of Worcester County Public Works is hosting its annual collection of Christmas trees December 26, 2025 through January 31, 2026. Area residents can drop off Christmas trees at the Central Landfill in Newark and the Berlin, Pocomoke, and Snow Hill Homeowners Convenience Centers at no cost.

Businesses and organizations that sold trees will not be permitted to drop off trees at the convenience centers, but may take them to the Central Landfill where applicable tipping fees will be assessed.

Worcester County Government Christmas and New Year Holiday Schedules

Worcester County Government offices will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, December 24-25, 2025, for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and Thursday, January 1, 2026, for New Year’s Day.

All five branch libraries and the Worcester County Recreation Center in Snow Hill will also be closed December 24-25 and January 1.

The Central Landfill in Newark, and the Homeowner Convenience Centers in Berlin, Snow Hill, and Pocomoke will be open December 24 and will be closed December 25 and January 1.

Newly Adopted Room Tax Rate of 6.0% Effective January 1, 2026

Snow Hill, Maryland – Effective January 1, 2026, the hotel rental tax rate imposed on all short-term rentals (4 months or less) within Worcester County will increase from 5% to 6%. This tax is calculated on the amount paid for a room or building rental at any hotel, motel, apartment, cottage, or other similar place providing sleeping accommodations.

Commissioners Seek Volunteers to Serve on Administrative Charging Committee

The Worcester County Commissioners are seeking interested area residents to serve on the Administrative Charging Committee under the State Police Accountability Act. There is one vacant position on this board.

The Administrative Charging Committee consists of five members who review complaints and investigations of police misconduct, determine whether an officer should be charged with misconduct, and, if charged, recommend discipline from the State-created matrix.

Members of the board must receive 40 hours of training before beginning service.

Riddle Farm Wastewater Treatment Plant Fully Operational

Snow Hill, Maryland (November 14, 2025) – Following a successful renovation and repair project, the Riddle Farm Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is once again fully operational. The rehabilitation project, which got underway with M2 in June 2024, came in within budget and on time.

“A big thanks goes out to our phenomenal team who did a knockout job getting the work done,” Public Works Director Dallas Baker said. “Also, none of this would have been possible without the support of the Worcester County Commissioners.”

Worcester County Offices at Isle of Wight Closing for Renovation

Snow Hill, Maryland – Worcester County Government’s satellite offices at Isle of Wight, located at MD Rt. 90 and St. Martins Neck Road, will be closed for renovations from Wednesday, November 19, 2025, through spring 2026. Services provided at this location by the Treasurer’s Office and Health Department will temporarily be relocated.
